WCMM Fusion 2025 was so much more than just an exhibition; the event was inaugurated by Lund University’s Vice-Chancellor, Erik Renström, who underscored the significance of art not only in science but in life as a whole. Upon this followed an immersive experience featuring an inspiring program of talks, workshops, and discussions.
A Celebration of Science, Art, and Collaboration
One of the key highlights of the day was a fascinating talk and workshop led by scientific illustrator Joana C. Carvalho. Attendees had the unique opportunity to engage with her expertise, gaining insights into the intricate process of translating complex scientific concepts into visually striking illustrations.
Beyond the visual spectacle, the event provided an invaluable networking opportunity. Guests mingled with the researchers behind the exhibited artworks, discussing their scientific journeys and artistic inspirations. A thought-provoking panel discussion delved into the evolving role of artificial intelligence in scientific illustrations, addressing both its potential and challenges in modern research visualization.
The WCMM Fusion 2025 exhibition offered a unique perspective on cutting-edge medical research by presenting it in a visually compelling format. Each illustration telling a story—unveiling the mysteries of scientific exploration, highlighting breakthroughs in molecular medicine, and illustrating the potential impact on future clinical therapies.
Look closer, think deeper
The purpose of WCMM Fusion 2025 was to ignite curiosity among the general public and to emphasize the vital role of the Wallenberg initiative’s contribution to scientific discovery and collaboration. By visualizing what is often invisible to the naked eye, we hope this exhibition will continue to inspire to look closer, think deeper, and explore the remarkable connection between art and science!
This event was made possible through the dedication of the organizing committee, including Lisa Karlsson, Ervin Ascic, Nejc Arh, and Elin Arvidsson, along with the contributions of numerous researchers from various WCMM-affiliated laboratories.
